For those who have had their pregnancy checkup at KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital, you might be very familiar with one of the most famous Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist named Dr. Wendy Loh Leh Hung. There are two other available consultants namely Dr. Chen Kien Nam and Dr. Tan Yiap Loong but I preferred having Dr. Wendy Loh Leh Hung as my gynae since she is a female gynecologist consultant and at the same time gained very high popularity among my fellow friends and colleagues due to positive feedback.

About Gynaecologist’s Qualifications
Dr. Wendy Loh Leh Hung is a highly qualified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist consultant who graduated from the University Of Glasgow, United Kingdom. She underwent Obstetric and Gynaecology training in both Malaysia and the United Kingdom. Due to her experience as former Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Sarawak General Hospital, she is currently serving at KPJ Kuching Hospital as one of the Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Consultants with an overwhelming number of consultees.
As for the consultation fee, it might vary from year to year. For me, my whole pregnancy checkup was done between April 2018 until December 2018.
For the first 3 appointments, I was charged RM108 with GST included, but luckily since the abolishment of 6% GST (or rather tax holiday) due to a policy by the new government, each check-up’s fee had reduced to RM104.
The consultation fee had already included both doctor consultation and ultrasound scan. Price wise was quite reasonable and comparable to other private hospitals available in Kuching.
- Consultation Fee: RM60
- Ultrasound Scan Fee: RM40
- Total: RM104 (includes 0% GST and administration fee)
Remark: All fees are subject to change.
Consultation Operating Hours
For consultation under Dr. Wendy Loh Leh Hung, I was able to choose whether to have a day time or night time appointment date whichever the most convenient to me. The operating hours are:
- Monday to Friday (Day Clinic):
- 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM
- 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- Wednesday (Day Clinic):
- 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- Saturday (Day Clinic):
- 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
- Tuesday and Thursday (Night Clinic):
- 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
The Night Clinic is available every Tuesday and Thursday, thus making it so convenient for me as I didn’t need to worry about exhausting my Annual Leaves for each pregnancy check-ups.
Pregnancy Checkup Frequency
My first pregnancy visit was during my 8th week of pregnancy. In total, I went for the appointment check-up about eight times including a few extra visits in between whenever I felt necessary. As my expected due date was approaching, I was asked to come once every 2 weeks. Rule of thumb is don’t hesitate to come earlier than the appointment date whenever you have an uneasy feeling about your baby, just to have a peace of mind.
What Are The Pregnancy Check-up Consists Of?
Contrarily to the government antenatal care clinic, having pregnancy check-up at a private hospital was much more simple and of course very convenient. Under Dr. Wendy Loh Leh Hung’s consultation, the routine check-up lists would be:
Routine Check-up Lists
- To detect a low or high blood pressure level.
- To check for bladder/ kidney infection, sugar level, protein level, ketones, or bacteria infection.
- To monitor steady weight gain as a sign of healthy pregnancy development.
Detailed Ultrasound Scan: To confirm a successful pregnancy and compare gestational week against LMD (last menstrual date).
Dr. Wendy Loh may perform transvaginal scan if you were just a few weeks pregnant (6th week and below) as it is more accurate than an abdominal ultrasound scan.
Non-routine Check-up Lists (Performed Once)
Often performed during pregnancy week 28.
- To check on Hemoglobin level, Blood type, Rh positive, Hepatitis B, Glucose level and iron level.
Glucose Screening Test
- To check for Gestational Diabetes. However, Glucose Screening Test may be performed earlier than week 28 pregnancy if high glucose level is detected during urine test or if you are in the high risk for diabetes. I was really surprised that the Glucose water used for the Glucose Screening Test was quite tasty as it was orange flavored and not that sweat if compared to the one you get from the government clinic.
I was so grateful that all my routines and non-routines check-ups ended up very well during first, second, and third trimester except for the last couple of weeks before my EDD (expected due date).
Average Waiting Time
Well, from my real experience, there was no consistent waiting time as sometimes I only had to wait for as short as five minutes, but in the case of doctor needed to attend a labor case, it could be as long as two hours depending on a number of clients and doctor’s situation. One additional tip to share, never come later than 15 minutes from the clinic’s opening hour or else you have to wait longer.
Which Week Of Pregnancy Did I Figured Out Baby’s Gender?
My baby’s gender was revealed during a routine ultrasound scan at the 16th week of pregnancy which equivalents to 4 months. The gender reveal wasn’t intended though, but the baby was on the right position and showing clearly his scrotum that it was hard not to believe that the baby was a boy. I would like to give credits to Dr. Wendy Loh for her undoubtedly amazing skill in utilizing the ultrasound and captured the perfect image of my baby. She then got them printed and gave to me a copy.
Well, who doesn’t like freebies right? When I was in the 3rd trimester, nearly approaching my due date, I received a cooler bag and diaper bag from Dr. Wendy Loh Leh Hung. I used them during my two days stay at KPJ after labor. However, take note that due to a recent hospital policy, the management refrains any patients to send gift to their doctors.
I would say my pregnancy check-up with Dr. Wendy Loh at KPJ Kuching is one of the most memorable events in my life. The service was awesome, the surrounding staff were also very friendly, not forgetting how calm I felt during each check-up. I must say Dr. Wendy Loh is a very experienced specialist and always give accurate responses to your curiosity.
